Course

The course has undulating fairways and is unusual in that it does not have any bunkers. However, do not be fooled into thinking that this makes it easy. There are many holes where a flat lie is almost out of the question, and the changes in elevation makes many holes play much longer than their yardage.

  • Hole 1 & 10 278/261 yds Par 4 'Table'
    • Your 2nd shot, uphill to a shallow green will determine your score here. Go short and your ball will be gathered in the hollow before the green. Too long, and you face a difficult shot back through the trees, and may well end up falling off the front of the green!
    • View of first green
  • Hole 2 & 11 305/221 yds Par 4 'Beeches'
    • Drive downhill through the gap in the trees. Be wary of pulling your tee shot left as trouble awaits.
    • View of second green
  • Hole 3 & 12 256/197 yds Par 4 'Hells Bunker'
    • The yardage on the scorecard may suggest that this is a drivable par 4. However, the hill adds extra yards, there is out of bounds all the way up the left, and of course there is the 12 foot deep grass bunker before the green, from which the hole took its name. For the longer hitter, this is a classic risk/reward hole. Everyone else will just lay up short and be happy to hit a short iron over the trees to the green.
    • View from rear of third green
  • Hole 4 & 13 206/148 yds Par 3 'Saur Trauchle By'
    • Again, hitting uphill adds extra yards to the measured length. Out of bounds runs all the way up the left, and the prevailing wind blows against and towards the out of bounds. A par here is truly an achievement.
    • Fourth green
  • Hole 5 & 14 493/358 yds Par 5 'Wood'
    • Most of the trouble is down the left of this hole with out of bounds, a ditch, and heather all the way down the left. The hole plays into the prevailing wind, so it will normally take 3 good shots to reach the green.
    • Fifth green
  • Hole 6 & 15 565/457 yds Par 5 'Water Hole'
    • A long par 5, but with the prevailing wind. Long hitters may consider cutting the corner, but you need to clear the out of bounds fence on the left. For mere mortals two good shots will get you to the top of the hill, with a good view of the green. Don't pull your shot left of the green as a deep hole, filled with trees and scrub, will swallow your ball.
    • Sixth green
  • Hole 7 & 16 312/271 yds Par 4 'Guid Skelp'
    • Back up the hill for the last time. Many drives will end up in two hollows on the fairway. A slight dogleg left, the second shot is sharply uphill with a small banking at the front of the green.
    • Seventh green
  • Hole 8 & 17 382/288 yds Par 4 'Smiddy'
    • All the way down the hill for this par 4. Out of bounds again awaits any tee shot pulled left. The green is difficult to read and it appears many putts break back up the hill!
    • Eighth green
  • Hole 9 & 18 154/151 yds Par 3 'Oot o Sicht'
    • As the name suggests, the tee shot here is semi blind as only the top of the flag can be seen. Have your tee shot bounce at the top of the hill, or fly it all the way - the choice is up to you. However beware the bushes either side of the green.
    • Ninth green
  •   Totals 2951/2352 yds 5902/4704yds Out 36 In 36 Par 72
